The last week of July is here, and August is upon us already. Typical warm weather and luckily the area got a bunch of much needed rain. Watauga shot the Pitts Memorial over the weekend, and it was well attended.
One event this Saturday and it will be held at the Charlie Brown Gun Club. Typical 300 target program and the weather is looking like a chance of rain then clearing. I posted the program on the site so go take a look. If you have never shot at CBGC now is your chance. Normally they have been hosting BIG50 events that were run by Eric and Margaret Blakeney and they were well attended. Not sure who is cashiering the shoot so get there early to sign up.
Watauga held their Pitts Memorial shoot over the weekend and 600 targets were offered. Saturday BIG “D” Tollison won the singles with a pair of 96’s, Shawn Reese punched himself to the back fence with his 91 in handicap and followed that up with a 97 to win the doubles. Sunday rolled around and Cody Lyons won the singles with a 99 and also the handicap with a 93 and a punch due to 15 shooters. Sean Reese was the HOA winner with 565x600. Watauga shoots next on August 22nd & 23rd when they host the Glenn Miller Memorial and the program should be finalized this week.
August did I say August and you know what that means. The Grand American will crank up this week and the AIM Grand has already started. Hunter and Jeff Galloway rode up over the weekend, and Jeff flew back Sunday night. Hunter will start meetings on Monday night and then meetings every morning at 8AM. Colson Allen and family are heading up this Thursday and Issac McCoy will head up Thursday also. Mark Cox will head out over the weekend and Lord willing I will head up next Wednesday. Always a good time at the Grand American and I hope the weather gets cooler than it is right now. Hunter dropped by the Wal-Mart in Sparta and Winchester AA’s and Silver Bullets were $137.60 per flat. The Winchester Super Targets were $104.70 a flat and not a Remington or Federal shell in the place. If you buy shells at the shell house they offer a 3% discount on cash. Illinois sales tax is 6.25 and with local rates could be as much as 11%. Also, if you buy from Wal-Mart and not an Illinois resident you have to buy a FOID card so you can purchase the shells. That is not required in the shell house on the grounds.
Please keep Chris Powell in your prayers. He is doing better and will need to spend some time in a rehab center to get him back in the swing of things. Allan Davis is a point of contact, and I appreciate him keeping me informed. Chris survived a nearly fatal motorcycle accident years ago and made it through that and he will make it through this!
