Jared Mattson with a bird out from the back fence…..

Rockingham County shot Saturday the 19th of August and it was a little toasty. We had some visitors that included the current NCTA President Marty Hill and “Gorgeous” George Brown. Scott Holman and Bobby Jones slid off the hill from Boone to join us and George the roaming nomad Ponton drifted in. We had a shooter from Asheville that showed an Alaska address and his name is Jared Mattson and hopefully he will come back to the Rock. We also had some Virginia shooters that included Ted Carwile and his running partner Hunt Asbury.

Lane Murray on his way to a punch and a 93 in caps.

18/18/12 competed in the three events and the singles found Ted Carwile the winner with 100 straight. Tommy Brown had a 98 and right behind him was Ronnie Manuel with a 97. Handicap cranked up and a slight breeze started playing with the targets. Only 4 scores in the nineties and even if he broke a 25 on his last trap the Prez missed the punch. Lane Murray got the punch with his 93 with Mark Spoon real close with a 92.

Ray Yazdi – on his way to a 94 in singles….

We had another visitor from Durham County and he shot well all day. Ray Yazdi shot decent singles, ok handicap and lights out doubles. I asked him after his round if he normally shot 95’s in doubles and he commented that just recently his scores had turned around. He started shooting his top tube first and he started breaking doubles a lot better. His 47/48 topped all doubles shooters with Tommy Brown with a 93.

We want to thank everyone that came out to shoot and also to the folks that pitched in to help. Our next event will be the Sunday of Labor Day with a BIG50 Fun Shoot and a Chicken Wing Dinner prepared by Scott Shoulars. If you plan to attend please contact Lane Murray so we can plan for the wings that need to be ordered.

Sunday 14 shooters came out for 100 targets and some trap shooting fun. The temps seemed a little cooler and the wind kept the sweat bees at bay. Two knotted up for the hi-gun spot with Steve Morgan and Chris Shoulars tied with 92’s. Scott Shoulars hit the mid-lewis and Joel “Ruger Man” White hit the low-lewis. Folks had a lot of fun and we had some new club members come out for the event.
