January 11th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Hello and an assorted weather weekend for sure. Looks like the beginning of the week will be cool and the mountains should be getting a little of the white stuff. One BIG50 last week and the info from their newsletter is shown below.

We had eight shooters for the Big 50 this week. The real winter weather showed up this week with a vengeance. Conditions were good and bad. Sunshine and no rain were the good parts. A Bone chilling wind chill from blustery winds coupled with low temperatures made up the bad part. The blustery winds made for really erratic targets which resulted in lower than normal scores this week. Fred Barnett and Bill Boston tied for Top Gun honors this week with identical 38’s. Wayne Averill, Mike Petrone and Harold Smith all shot 36’s for second place. In addition to these five we had Charlie Bertrand, Frank Harris and a new shooter, Harry Baumann shoot with us. Hope you become a regular Harry. We did not see Terry Lewis this week. Terry is dealing with some health issues. We wish you well and hope you are better soon. Keep your powder dry!

LCP shoots their next BIG50 the 13th and their monthly registered shoot is the 16th and not sure why it isnt listed on the calendar. An updated calendar was published and it is available on this site or on http://www.nctrap.com. Rockingham GC added their dates and not sure who else added info. Mash on the link for NC shoot info - http://www.nctrap.com/shoots2016.pdf

I checked the ATA website and found the Spartanburg scores for their first shoot in 2016. Attendance looked great with 32S/27H/10D and somebody got the punch. Colby Watkins won the singles with a 97, Joseph Rogers won the caps from the 20.5 with an 89, Kevin Stephens won the doubles with a 92 and no HOA winner was listed. Bob Schultz sent out a brief note and made a mention of the SGC and their newly refurbished sporting clays range and also mentioned their 5-stand field. Spartanburg is a very interesting place to shoot and their State Shoot is in the month of May.

I have been updating a thread on Trapshooters.com and have been digging up shooters from around the country. Former Remington rep Scott Hanes turned up and it was great to hear from him. I have been trying to get the word out just in case we have folks traveling through the area.

Ok that is about it except the Dixie Grand is just a few weeks away. Sure is nice shooting in Florida in January when it is cold and windy and snowy in your location. Hello to Lou, Hap, Scott and Chase and until next week.....................Smokem
