October 24th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Good morning and I hope you enjoyed the arrival of cooler temps in the TarHeel State. Along with the cool temps came some strong wind and I viewed snow on Mt. Mitchell that was chilly to say the least.

One shoot coming up this weekend at Polk County and I will include a link to some pictures and info on their upcoming event. They are getting back in the registered trap game and I hope they do well. I talked with Hunter Galloway on his way back from Baldhead Island and he stated that he shot at Polk County when he started back shooting after he got out of law school. Here is the link - https://tarheeltrap.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2084 also info from NCTRAP - http://nctrap.com/polk.htm

The Watauga Gun Club held their annual Chicken Wing Fling Saturday and it was a bit windy in the valley. Shelley had to drive to Morganton to get Pop Watsons grill since he wrecked his truck. John Waters did another excellent job per Morg. Steve Watson won the singles with a 97, David Miller won the caps with a 94, Noah Gouge won the doubles with a 94 and David Miller won the HOA. I had made a prediction earlier in the week that Dan Johnson would knock old DM off the hill but Dan didn’t make the trip. Pitts laid it on Shelley Saturday and Shelley laid it on Pitts on the race pool Sunday. Thanks to Morg Shaw for the pictures and the scores. I haven’t heard anything from LCP and I would imagine they are still waiting for everything to dry out before the trap goes back in the hole. That is a shooting bunch and I know they are itching to get back shooting as soon as possible.

I took a trip over to Ray Shisler’s house and took pictures of the items he is wanting to sell before he heads to Georgia. I provided a slideshow of all the items and please call him if you are interested. Jeff Galloway and I have both purchased from Ray and these items are in great condition. Some are better than others and some have never been fired. Here is a link to the info and look for the link to the slideshow. https://tarheeltrap.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2083

Three shoots in November with Rock shooting the 6th, Buckhorn the 13th (Toys for Tots) and Old Hickory the 19th. In December Buckhorn shoots the 4th and shoots January 1st. I would imagine LCP will continue to shoot their weekly Wednesday BIG50’s and might have a monthly shoot also.

The Buckhorn Gun Club hosts their Toys for Tots shoot in November and it is a great time to bring a toy to brighten the life of those children less fortunate. The Watauga boys will probably ride down for the shoot and maybe Shelley can work old Pitts over before winter sets in up in the high country.

Marty Hill will be heading back from Alabama in the morning. He said that if he had declared SubVet he would have won. I believe George Brown went and not sure who the other person was......

That will do it for this week’s Smoke Report and I haven’t looked at the weather this week but I hope it is good for the Polk County crew. Hello to Lou, Hap, Scott and Chase and until next week……………….Smokem
