Scorekeeper Responsibilities

- Wear ear and eye protection – this is a must!
- Turn off the “button” during station moves and after the squad is over. Position the button to allow you to turn the trap on and off quickly!
- In the event of inclement weather, if the call is made to clear the line of shooters and scorekeepers, it will be done immediately.
- No one other than shoot personnel are allowed in or near the trap house. If the squad wants the targets adjusted, call for the trap mechanics immediately. Do not allow anyone other than the trap mechanics to adjust the traps.
- When calling out the lost targets and telling the squad to move, speak up but not so loud as to trip the CVR’s.
- When calling out the scores, speak plainly and slow enough so the squad can understand you!
- When calling for singles and doubles, move your stand back far enough so that when you speak it doesn’t trip the voice calls.
- Be sure each score sheet is completely filled out with the following information: Squad #, date, event #, starting field #, name of each shooter, shooter’s yardage and scorekeeper’s name.
- If you make a mistake or lose your place on the score sheet, turn the button off and stop the squad. Shooters can work with you to figure out the situation.
- If you have a problem with a shooter, stay polite and respectful and call for shoot management to handle the situation.
- Failure to fire rule: 1 per 25 target sub events and 2 per 50 target sub events.
- If you notice a shooter turning down perfectly good targets, bring it to our attention immediately. Do not stop the squad, just contact shoot management.
- You are the ref, if you don’t see a piece off of a target and the shooter says he did. Ask if anybody noticed a piece off of the bird. If they say no, it then becomes a judgment call.
- Starting traps will have a list of shooters that will shoot on their starting trap. Sometimes these lists aren’t complete, so their may be more shooters added at a later time. If you have a question, use the radio to contact a squad hustler.
- Try to get each squad to the line as quickly as possible. Don’t wait more than a minute or so for a missing shooter.
- You can use your radio to contact the squad hustler to report a missing shooter/s.
- After the squad finishes their 50 targets report the next squad that will shoot to the squad hustler. This will allow us to update the squad board.
- If you change how you marked a target, you need to write dead or lost and initial it.
- Be sure to keep a spare pencil in case you drop your main pencil. Bring a pocket knife to sharpen your pencil if needed.
