June 1st Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

That time of the year again and all efforts are pointing toward the 102nd Annual NC State Trapshoot. This will be discussed and little later in more detail. Two shoots in NC including the BIG50 at LCP and Ft. Bragg. I have the shoot reports from Watauga last weekend and also LCP and Ft. Bragg.

The Watauga boys must have put out some trapshooter lure because they packed them in for the valley's first shoot of the 2015 season. 45 folks shot the singles and Jimmy Wilson managed the windy conditions and broke the top score with a 98. Tom Shelley had baby doll watching on the sideline and he won the caps with the lone 92. Dan Johnson won both doubles events with a 96 and a 94 and also the HOA with a 368x400 nipping Jimmy Wilson by one stinking bird......Oh - Marty Hill they are threatening to break the "Widow Maker" out for future big shoot events. Watauga shoots again on the 27th of June so make it if you can!

LCP BIG50 - This info was submitted by Pat Childers. All right shooters - you missed out on another good day of shooting and the scores today reflect that. It was a little warm (low 80's), sunny with some clouds and only occasional gusts of wind. The all orange targets looked like garbage can lids! Wayne Averill and Pat tied for higun honors with 49's. Wayne ran the first 25 and Pat the second on the way to the 49's. Terry Lewis came in third with a 45 with 44's broken by Paul Miraglia and Harold Smith. Evidently the all orange birds really are helping scores. The three shooters that shot in the monthly registered shoot broke 287 out of 300 and the lowest score was a 95......Looks like you made a great decision to switch those birds! LCP shoots their next BIG50 the 3rd and their monthly shoot is the 27th.

Ft. Bragg hosted their monthly shoot and a good crowd showed up on a warm day in the sandhills. John Miller won the singles with a 96, Glenn Alford and Chris Powell tied in the caps with Glenn the eventual winner. Jeff Galloway and Dan Johnson knotted up with 95's with Jeff the eventual winner and Jeff also won the HOA with a 281. Ft. Bragg doesn't shoot again until the 25th of July so mark your calendars accordingly.

Rockingham shoots this Saturday and Sunday with a typical 300 bird format on Saturday and a BIG50 on Sunday. Registration starts at 9 and shooting begins at 10. Sunday the BIG50 registration starts at 1:00 with shooting at 2PM. Come join us and get some birds in before the NC State Trapshoot at the NC Homegrounds.

The 102nd NC State Trapshoot starts June 10th and runs through the 14th. Preparations are being made to make this state shoot the biggest and the best shoot ever. With 12 competition traps and ERADS folks in and out of the state of NC come to the Homegrounds to break the best scores of their lives. Not sure of how many 100 straights have been broken in handicap at the HG but it has to be close to 10 ......somebody look that up......Dave Daily missed the SC State Shoot to go on a 21 day cruise but he will be at the NC State Shoot and it will be good to see him back at the HG. The Keevers and the Duncans will be working tirelessly to get the HG prepared and thank the Lord for those folks and others that make it happen including the NCTA and HOF crew.......Click on the link for the program......http://nctrap.com/2015_proof.pdf

Facebook coughed up a bit of info regarding Remington Rep Shane Naylor. Shane is one heck of a shot and over the weekend he was inducted into the Sporting Clays Hall Of Fame. I know it is well deserved and I know he has worked hard all these years to promote Sporting Clays in the local area and across the state. If you have ever shot in a registered SC event you might have seen a ScoringPro truck on site. The fellow that runs that software is Scott Redmon (not related we don't think) and Shane has been instrumental in helping Scott get that software used both near and far. Shane is not only one heck of a shot he is also a great family man and a true gentleman!

Ok....that about does it and I hope everybody has a great week. Hello to Hap, Scott and Lou and until next week..................................Smokem
