Cold crisp and comfortable would sum up the weather conditions at the Rock today. We arrived early to setup and we were greeted with frost covered traps. The wind blew on and off and if it had been overcast it would have been miserable. We had folks that showed up to shoot and folks that showed up to watch.

Don Kaufman showed up with his brand spanking new Kolar TA and shot it rather well today. Brandon dropped a release trigger into his 1100 and shot pretty good considering the different style trigger. We shot the entire event on one trap and we had the trap dropped to the lowest notch. Even with the trap that far down the wind would really get under the target occasionally.

Originally we had one five man squad and then Irving Earls showed up like a bull in a China shop. He jumped out of his truck and stated that he was there to beat the ugly one and was looking right at me! Lewis drove out with his son to give JC Nunn notice that he had tuned 70 and wasn’t going to cut the tail gunner any slack! Lewis said that he didn’t feel a bit bad about whipping somebody 15 years older!

We shot two three man squads and it went quick. Squad 1 included Lane, Don and Brandon with squad 2 consisting of Fred, Irving and Gary. We shot 25,25 and then let the other squad shoot. Now that they have those two heaters in the clubhouse, it was almost too warm in the building.

The winner of the November Lewis Class Shoot was Lane Murray with a solid 95. There were three 93’s that included Don Kaufman, Irving Earls and yours truly Freddy Redmon. We had a great time and learned a little bit more about how to shoot in frigid weather. When we left the club it was 43 degrees and the wind had died down if you can believe that!

Looking into December there are two shooting events at the Rock. December 7th we will host a typical 300 target program and December 14th we will host another Lewis Class Shoot. We hope that you will be able to join us for one of these shooting events!

PS – Tom Cox brought Brunswick stew and cornbread which is some good stick to your ribs type of cold weather food. Also, don’t forget the club workday this coming Saturday! Come on out and help get some stuff done and then practice a little bit! Have a great weekend!
