July 29th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

July is just about over and here comes August. Several shoots last week to report and Buckhorn shoots this Saturday and Sunday. Also, folks are already at the Grand or heading that way.

Buckhorn hosted a BIG50 Wednesday and it was a tad warm. Allan Davis on one good leg won the singles and the doubles with Jeff James winning the handicap and the HOA. Buckhorn will hold their next BIG50 on August 21st.

Old Hickory shot Saturday and the weather turned out great with cooler temps. Allan Davis and Jeff James broke 97’s with Jeff winning by reverse score. Jeff also won the handicap and missed a punch with less than 15 shooters. Larry High won the doubles and Allan Davis won the HOA. Mark your calendar for October 27th when OH@Rocky Mount shoots again.

Watauga hosted the Tom Pitts Memorial shoot over the weekend with 200 handicap, 100 pair of doubles on Saturday and 200 singles on Sunday. Kevin Biss won the first handicap (95), Jason Dancy won the second handicap (90), Daniel Tollison won the first doubles (95) and Thomas Campbell won the second doubles (96). Sunday Sean Reese won the singles (195) and BIG D Tollison won the HOA (559x600)! One note is that Cobe Townsend was shooting youth half price targets and broke the high handicap score (96/91) in the first and second handicap and got a punch for both events. He also broke the high score in the singles with a 197. Thanks to Morgan Shaw for providing the info after just getting back from the club at 10PM. Watauga shoots next on October 26th at the Annual Chicken Wing Fling.

Folks are at the Grand including ATA secretary Hunter Galloway. Jeff and Hunter rode up Saturday and spent the night in Mt. Vernon Illinois before the short ride Sunday morning to Sparta. Jeff hopped on a Delta flight and departed Atlanta at 10:52 Sunday night with midnight arrival time in Greensboro. Hunter had dinner with current ATA president Billy Cook at the restaurant in the events center and said the food was great. Ethan and Andrew Ledford from Georgia were on their way Sunday and Ethan will start competing Monday morning. Alabama resident Jesse Burgher is planning to head up next week and will be shooting around bank 20. I am taking a 10x10 and might set up in the same area so drop by if you think about it.

The Buckhorn Gun Club will host a two-day shoot this weekend. Very possible it will be 100 singles – 100 caps – 50 pair of doubles on both days. Always have a good time at BGC and a great lunch.

Also, the Brushy Mountain Gun Club in Hurt Virginia will shoot Saturday and the Tri-Angle Gun Club in Bluefield Virginia will shoot Sunday. Just in case you need to get some birds in before the Grand.

That should do it for this week and hopefully some of you will get out and shoot some this week. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Will, Thea and Anne and until next week……..smokem
