November 4th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Fall back in the fall is what they say, and I hope you enjoy falling back this time of year. Great weather so far with a chance of rain later in the week. Brushy Mountain cancelled their event, and I hope to find the results from Spartanburg but none to be found.

Two events this week with CCLEOA hosting a BIG50 the 8th and Buckhorn hosting a combined Toys for Tots and Chicken Wing Fling. Buckhorn is hosting the event, and all monetary proceeds (no toys please) will be going for relief efforts in the North Carolina mountains. Jason Dancy will be handling the distribution of the funds collected.

Many of you know Toys for Tots is hosted by the Buckhorn Gun Club to collect toys and monetary donations for a local charity. Watauga hosted the Wing Fling that was a meal prepared by John Waters for their annual October shoot. With the damage to the Watauga Gun Club, they were unable to host the shoot, and this led to a conversation between Jimmy Wilson and John Waters. Now the emphasis is gathering funds for folks in the NC mountains that lost their homes due to Hurricane Helene. A great effort by all and hopefully a few thousand dollars can be raised at the event.

Program will consist of 100 singles, lunch and the 100 handicap targets. They are expecting a crowd, and the 200-target program will allow for time to complete the program with the time change. Believe me you don’t want to be shooting at BGC when the sun starts going down…..

I mentioned last week that Caleb Mathis joined the AA/27/AA club for the 2024 target season. He carried a 98.92% average for 2500 singles targets, hit the 27-yard line and carried a 94.42% average for 1200 doubles targets. That is some mighty fine shooting right there and congratulations from TarHeelTrap.

Big shout out to George Powell that would really like to attend next Sunday but it is his lovely wife’s birthday and that would possibly be a no no. Also, a big shout out to George Sudderth and his lovely wife Evelyn with their recent 48th anniversary celebration.

That should about do it for this week. Make plans to attend the shoot at Ft. Liberty in a few weeks and hopefully the weather will cooperate. Weather for the Fling Tots looks moist but when is the weatherman ever right? Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Will, Art, Barron, Thea and Anne and until next week……….smokem
