Here we are in the middle of January and the NC coastline is expecting snow. Not much going on in NC as far as shooting goes but if you live up North they shoot league through the winter.
If you live in Florida, you would be shooting at the Silver Dollar Gun Club in Odessa Florida. We have two North Carolina shooters competing and they are Tiffany Decker and Brad Barnett. The Silver Dollar Arm USA shoot took place January 17th through the 19th. If you have never shot at the Silver Dollar you need to put it on your bucket list.
Our man on the ground in Florida John Sandell is traveling around shooting sporting clays and other disciplines. Imperial Polk Club in Winterhaven throws some nice birds. Teneroc in Lakeland “state shooting ranges” have three SC courses and one is closed for shot reclamation. He said weekends were busy on the new 5-stand but weekdays were like shooting on private courses. They use Euro targets which was the low state bid and due to supply issues they were throwing mostly all black targets. Low inventory has them waiting on deliveries and target breakage was another issue. Sure would be nice to float around in the warm sunshine and shoot!! He was also finding flats of gun club and Fed Top Guns for $99/flat with tax on top. Always good to hear from John and Grace and it sounds like they are having a blast.
If you are planning on attending the South Carolina State Shoot/NC Hall of Fame in early May I hope you have made reservations. SC resident Dave Daily called the Holiday Inn Express, and the attendant commented they only had 6 rooms left at the shoot rate of $95 + fees +tax. Another person called the Quality Inn and was quoted $561 for four nights and an hour later they called and it was 700 +/-. He said the prices had gone up and take it or leave it and she left it. HIX and the Hampton are the only two places I would stay and have had great success with AIRBNB in the area.
Greg High is on the mend after successful back surgery and is resting comfortably at the Duke Wake campus. Not sure when he will be released and uncertain what his rehab looks like so he can get back to shooting. Also, Tommy Brown got a good report from the VA and he was very happy about the news.
