September 1st Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

I hope you are enjoying the long Labor Day weekend Holiday. Some shooting action in North Carolina this week with a BIG50 and three-day event all at the Buckhorn Gun Club. No shooting events on the calendar this week as far as I can tell.

Buckhorn hosted a midweek BIG50 and some good scores were broken. Joe Nalley posted a 50 in singles with Allan Davis and Chris Powell a close second with 49’s. James Fisher led all handicap shooters with a 47 and Joe Nalley led doubles with a 47.

Buckhorn hosted a three-day shoot with 100 singles-100 caps-50 pairs of doubles on Saturday and Sunday with 150 pairs of doubles on Monday. Kevin Biss provided me with the scores for both days so here goes. 22/19/10 took the line Saturday with Billy Soper leading all singles shooters with a lone 98. Mike Statnton lead all handicap shooters with a 93 and will shoot from the 23 the next time out. Billy Soper and Connor Mathis posted 90’s in doubles and not sure if they flipped or what.

Sunday 30/23/15 showed up in some good weather conditions and some good scores were posted. Greg Robinson led all shooters with the lone 100 with Ed Gideon, Billy Soper and Joe Nalley a close second with 98’s. Mark Spoon dialed in a 92 from the 27 and the winning score. Ed Gideon and Connor Mathis were a close second with 90’s. Jimmy Wilson led all doubles shooters with a 94 and Mark Cox and Mark Spoon a close second with 93’s. A great two days of shooting with quite a few targets thrown. One day left on the books and will there be a 100 straight broken Monday?

Sunday Madelyn Fisher broke her first 25 in singles competition at Buckhorn. Congrats and I know her dad is very proud of her accomplishment!

Dan Johnson is on a little mission to Pennsylvania to participate in the W.R. Case Cutlery shoot. It is held at the Bradford Gun Club, and it is one of the clubs that I shoot at with the Konne-Yaut Indians. You can view all the scores on http://www.scoresr.com. They shot 200 singles on Sunday and will shoot doubles and handicap on Labor Day Monday. Richard Long from North Carolina is up there shooting also.

Some news from the Rockingham County Gun Club. The Memorial shoot will be held September 13th, and we will be awarding $100 for the hi-gun in singles, caps, doubles and HOA. The National Trapshooting Month shoot has been moved back a week (September 18th) so as to not conflict with the Watauga “Chicken Wing” Fling the 25th. We have given away Shamrock leather trophies in 2010, 2020 and now 2025. We will have about $1500 worth of leather trophies, and it is a 300-target shoot. We have talked about a 5-man team challenge and just tying to work out those details. We should know more in the next few weeks.

Brian Pilcher reached out to me asking about who did molded ear plugs locally. I reached out to Shane Naylor and he mentioned a gal named Granny Sherman in Lexington. He gave me a cell number, and I did take time to Google her and it looks like she does a good job. Try 1-704-798-5149 if you need some plugs made and let me know how it worked out.

That is going to do it for this week. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
