The 9th Glenn Miller is in the books. And I think moving the Iron Man Marathon to Saturday was a very smart move. We had twenty six shooters show up to shoot and eleven to shoot the whole 500 bird program. Out of the eleven there were two shooters, who had not planned on shooting the whole event but who got caught up in the battle taking place on the line. The trophies for Iron Man Champion and Runner-Up comes down to the ROCK big Jim Wilson and the famed 2009 State Handicap Champion/BamBam/ George Sudderth.
Well as the best of battle plans are laid out in the first event Big Jim takes a lead by posting a blazing score of 95 over a 90 by George. Then as event number two unfolds the two contenders come in the house with matching scores of 92. By now the skies were clearing and the smoke lay heavy on the trap fields as the cool mist lies on the river bottom. These two figures move up to the 27 yard line for a third and final round of handicap targets, when the sound of thunder fell quite over the fields from a third round of handicap targets George (BamBam) Sudderth rebounds with a 94 to a 92 posted from the ROCK. Three hundred handicap targets down and moving to what most would say the strength of both shooters “Doubles”. Yes both these husky stove pipe swinging shooters have been known to do their best work at the line shooting doubles. Event four begins as the steady rhythm of doubles moves over an onto field number two, Big Jim lets the last bird on field two get away for a 49 and a final score of 97, and BamBam was showing his stuff and not to be out done comes in second with a nice and respectful score of 93. Now lets see that is three birds from handicap and four more in the first round of doubles, seven target to be made up. Can BamBam make up seven birds on Big Jim, only the trap gods and finger painting in the target dust knows this answer? Event five “The Show Down” These two shooters come up on the line like two old west gun slingers and begin to turn targets too dust, two at a time. When the last pair is out of the house and the fine target dust falls to the ground, there stands Big Jim, and this time he didn’t let that last bird get away. He was grinning and posting a perfect 50 for the second field and a 49 on the first for a total score of 99 and the title of 2009 Iron Man Champion.
Champion James Wilson 475X500
Runner-Up George Sudderth 464X500
Honorable Mention Charlie Brown 453X500
There are so many stories being played out on the trap fields today. Bill Howe in the first event posted a 99 in handicap to place his name at the top of the board and a honorable punch. Then Jim Jacobs shot a 98 for his first punch in ATA to the 21 yard line. Tim Crabtree came up and in Event two and three post 95’s for top dog in both events and two half yard punches back to the 23.5 yard line.
Sunday and The Glenn Miller Memorial:
In the face of heavy rains and flash flooding fifteen shooters rolled out for a little target busting fun. Several shooters crossed the state line and joined in on the fun. Trey Wilburn came in on the winds of his first 100 straight in doubles from the day before at Kettlefoot to take top honors in singles with a 99. Handicap champ was taken by Tom Brown with a 96. Doubles found yours truly and Trey Wilburn tied with 92’s.

Let me close by saying thanks to everyone that make their way to the mountains in the face of all the weather. And most of all let me say thanks to all the people that came out and worked and help put this weekend on. Wayne and his two girls do a great job, and Sheila who has taken over the cooking did one great job. If you don’t believe me ask the three HOA from Saturday, because the last time I saw them they were setting back with their feet kicked up with big bowls of chicken-pot-pie nursing sore legs and bad backs.
Thanks to All.

well, it is there to be seen. the big sissy didn't shoot sunday, again.
he got lucky on saturday, beat up on poor boy george, then ran like a dog. how pitiful. you see, george is pretty easy, all ya gotta do is talk to him a little, ask him if he wants a "do over" once in a while and he falls like a kite without wind
i don't care how hard it rained, there isn't enough water to float a turd of that size, and he sure ain't sugar..............
just remeber mr. wilson, boone is mine. i never did give 'em back the deed. were you afraid you'd shoot another 86 in singles and get beat by 14 targets? (yes folks it did happen just like that)
