The Rockingham Gun Club hosted their "Memorial" shoot Saturday the 16th of June. The weather was great and the wind moved the birds around a bit during all three events. There were some good scores broken and a couple of fellows got a punch in the handicap.
We had a couple of folks visit that we haven't seen in quite some time. LeAnn visited and bless you my dear for the peach cobbler. Also, Ray Shisler brought Steve Karas out for a visit and it was good to see both of them. We were also happy to have Mark Worrell and Don Harris from the state of Virginia. We hope they had a good time and we hope they come back to see us soon.
I have posted the scores and the winners so I will talk about the winners of the main events and also discuss the three shootoffs we had. Everybody had a great time and it was a long day for sure.
Singles - Two shooters knotted up with 96's and they were Chris Shoulars and Ronnie Manuel. They stepped to the line for the shootoff after the doubles and Ronnie got the best of Chris for the HiGun singles award.
Handicap - Two shooters wound up knotted with 94's and it turned out to be Lane Murray and Ronnie Manuel. They stepped the the line and they were hitting birds hard. Then the wheel started to run off for Ronnie and Lane wound up getting the best of him! Both of these fellows got punches back to the 20.5 - congrats guys!
Doubles - We wound up shooting the dubs on trap four and when the smoke cleared there was one winner and he didn't have to shootoff. Tommy Brown broke a strong 96 for the win and the dubs were bouncing around a bit. There was one more shootoff and it would be between Chris Shoulars and you guessed it - Ronnie Manuel.
Chris and Ronnie stepped to the line on trap 4 and commenced to unloading cartridges. Ronnie was down four birds and Chris was only down two and had one pair to mash. Then the unthinkable happened - Chris dutched his last pair and Ronnie broke his for a tie.
They jumped back on the line and Ronnie pretty much laid it on Chris and broke a strong 18x20 for the "B" Class win in the dubs. I got pix of the pair and I know they were glad that all of that was over!
Ronnie Manuel got his name on the wall to become he first shooter to win the this event. Ronnie had a 96 in singles and a 94 in handicap for a 190x200 and that is some great shooting!
The Rockingham GC would like to thank all the folks that attended and all the folks that helped. Thanks to the Wyatt's, Lane, Tom & Dave "Field General" Cox, Scott Shoulars for lunch, Jim Roland a big thanks, Hunter Galloway for scoring, Tom Brown and Jeff Galloway for setting up the dubs.
Don't forget our Lewis Class shoot next Saturday and check your calendar for our registered shoots in the future.
