Mabe-Rinehart-Galloway-Galloway-Shoulars-O'Bryant-Shisler-Lewis Class Winners

The Rockingham Gun Club held their monthly Lewis Class shoot Saturday and had 27 shooters attend the event. Early on the it was a bit overcast and then here came the sun and it was steamy. This is the biggest LCS shoot to date and the last large turnout was in December 2011 when 25 folks took the line.
There were no perfect fifties broken in the singles but we did have four near perfect 49's to make things interesting. The 49's were broken by Charlie Rinehart, Hunter Galloway, Winky Mabe and John Miller. Jeff Galloway and Lewis Wyatt broke 48's and there were no 47's but a slew of 46's! The goal is to stay close in the singles because you never know what will happen in the handicap.
The Lewis Class shoot was designed to attract folks that normally do not shoot registered trap. We attract competition trap shooters, competition skeet shooters, competition sporting clays shooters but the goal is to attract anybody that wants to shoot trap to attend. We had folks at this event that had never shot trap before and for others it was the first time in an organized setting! We hope that everybody that attended had a good time and will come back to shoot in the future.
Lunch was prepared by Scott Shoulars and it really hit the spot. Judy brought some delicious type of cookie with a hershey's kiss in the middle. Sort of hard to talk after popping one of those goodies in your mouth. After lunch was over we cranked up the handicap and the fun began.
The top score broken in the handicap was by Winky Mabe and it was a 48 to go along with his 49 in singles. Drew broke a 46 and John Miller broke a 45 and then a few 44's that included Karole Miller. She broke a 25 on field 3 and then she shot on trap 1 - you do the math. It wasn't that the targets were tough it was just folks weren't hitting the targets.
Oh - John Miller said that the New York style targets weren't hard like I reported last Monday. I asked him what choke he was using and he stated - isn't there only one choke for singles? I asked what is that and he said FULL of course. I used a light full for singles and dropped my last two birds for a 46. I shouldn't have to shoot a ltfull to smoke a WF - just saying.
The winner of the LCS was Winky Mabe with his lone 97. John Miller had the next highest score with a 94 and then Drew had a 92. The next Lewis was 91's and they included Charlie Rinehart and Jeff and Hunter Galloway. Matt O'Bryant and Scott Shoulars hit the next Lewis with 87's and Ray Shisler hit the low Lewis with a 72.
I believe everybody had a great time and thanks for bearing with us getting everybody to the line. Thanks for all that pitched in to help and another BIG THANKS to all that came out to shoot. Mark your calendar now for our next Lewis Class shoot the 8th of July!
