10th Annual Ted Smith Charity Shoot - Day 1 & 2

Virginia shooter Charlie Rinehart slipped across the border to capture the singles, Buckhorn local Ike Branthwaite won the caps and Freddy Redmon captured the doubles title today at the 10th Annual Ted Smith Charity shoot.

The weather was chilly in the morning and the wind blew in steady from the North all day. Chris Shoulars commented that he hoped the windmill could survive the spinning. All in all it actually got a bit toasty in the caps and the doubles.

Ted Smith did make it to the shoot and we appreciate his effort to attend. Pete and Phil Davis left before Ted made it to the club and I had hoped to get a picture of Ted, Pete and JC Nunn.

I will go ahead and get the food comments out of the way before I get into the shoot report. Lunch was the basic sandwich layout with one added ingredient – nana pudding. Chris Shoulars walked out with a plate with chips, a sandwich and two big dollops of nana pudding. He stated that if he had known they had pudding he wouldn’t have fixed the sandwich. The dinner on the grounds was excellent with Chef Andrew at the grill. The dinner was excellent and all the dessert items were delicious - THANKS!

Four 97’s were broken in the singles and they included Charlie Rinehart (Champ), Charlie Brown (AA), Jeri Wilson (A) and Phil Davis (B). Local Donald Gray took C, Jackie Roush took D, Gail Page took lady, Bobby Page took vet, JC Nunn took senior vet and Chris Shoulars won junior.

15 shooters stepped to the line for the handicap event and one local fellow wound up getting a half yard punch that will allow him to shoot on the 24 yard line and he did in the “Sandbagger Handicap”. Ike Branthwaite took the top spot and the ½ yard, Andrew Carroll took short, Freddy Redmon took mid, Charlie Rinehart took intermediate (Marty was at a SKEET shoot), Charlie Brown took long, Gail Page took lady, Chris Shoulars took jr, Phil Berkowitz took vet and JC Nunn took senior vet.

After all the wind during the singles and caps we just knew the doubles were going to be sporty. After a last minute peptalk from Jimmy Wilson, Freddy Redmon stepped to the line and put two good rounds together for the top spot! Charlie Brown took AA, Tim Crabtree took A, Charlie Rinehart took B , Chuck Woody took C, JC Nunn took D, Chris Shoulars took jr and Tom Kanas took vet.

Charlie Brown broke 97/87/93 for a 277 and the HOA win.

Sandbagger Handicap

There were 9 participants in the Sandbagger Handicap and the weather was great for the event. Three shooters tied for the top spot with 46’s and they included Ike, Andrew Carroll and Phil Berkowitz. They split the $81 three ways and then there was the second spot. Freddy Redmon posted a 42 and took the second payout ( I think there is a song “All By Myself”), can you believe it? I hope this catches on because it could be a ton of fun for all!

That is about all I have to offer and don’t forget that Day 2 of the Ted is only about twelve hours away. Also it looks like Jeff and Hunter will be shooting Sunday, can you believe it? Have a great Sunday and hope to see you on the firing line real soon!
