June 26th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

After a week of rain, it sure was nice to enjoy two days of heat and sunshine. Lots of shooting going on around the country including Ohio, Maryland and Connecticut State shoots. Locally CCLEOA, Watauga and Rockingham held shooting events.

Rockingham hosted a 300-target program shoot, and the weather was great. Virginia shooter Brian Coates and Jeff Galloway led all singles shooters with 99’s. Brian Coates also was high gun in the handicap with a 94 and gained a ½ yard punch for his efforts. Virginia shooter Rance Boyd led all doubles shooters with a 94 and was only one bird away from the HOA won by Brian Coates with a 280. This year RCGC is returning $8 to the shooter and offer a Lewis and the “Middle 50” pot now at plus or minus $1500. Thanks to everyone that attended and to all the folks that pitched in to help.

Sunday Rockingham hosted a BIG50, and 13 folks showed up to shoot. It was hot and a little hazy and just a touch of wind. Mark Cox led all singles shooters with a 50 straight with Ed Gideon close behind with a 49 and Isaac Mccoy with a 48. Mark Cox and Sub-Jr Jacob Gossett led all handicap shooters with 45’s and Jacob won his shootoff for doubles champ with Mark after 44’s. Ed Gideon also broke a 44 in doubles but left early. Mark Cox was the top shooter with 50-45 and took the top Lewis. Hunter Miller and Gage Malone split the 2nd Lewis with 84’s. Again, thanks to all that attended and to all that made the event run so smoothly.

The Mathis brothers shot at the Vermont State Shoot and then just finished the Connecticut State Shoot. Both young men shot great with Caleb most notably winning the Non-Res Singles with a 198 and the non-res doubles with his first 100 straight. Caleb also won the non-res HOA with a 670. Connor won multiple sub-jr trophies and broke his best scores in doubles with a 93. They will travel to West Virginia and look out Virginia the Mathis brothers are on a roll.

One shooting event in North Carolina this week with Buckhorn hosting a two-day shoot July 1st & 2nd. Not sure what the program is, and it could be 100 singles – 100 caps – 50 pair of doubles both days. But he could be switching it up a bit also. Always a good lunch and delicious treats by Karole Miller. Weather is looking hot with high 80’s low 90’s and 50% chance of rain but what does the weatherman know they get paid even when they are wrong.

Ok folks that will do it for this week. I didn’t get a shoot report from CCLEOA or Watauga and hope to post that info next week. Hello to Scott in PA, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Thea and Anne and until next week…….smokem
