May 13th Smoke Report
Posted: Sun May 12, 2024 10:05 pm
Monday night update - Jeff James alerted me that the Durham shoot is Sunday and not Saturday. I sent a text to Scarlett to confirm and she said yes it was SUNDAY.
Good morning and I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day weekend. One shooting event over the weekend and CCLEOA shot Friday. One shooting event this weekend on Saturday at the Durham County Wildlife Club.
CCLEOA shot Friday and 10/8/4 stepped to the line to compete. Doyle Thigpen won the singles, Billy Soper won the handicap, doubles and HOA. Their next shoot looks like October but that might change.
Buckhorn shot this Saturday and Sunday and hopefully I will have a shoot report next week on this event. Both days the weather looked great, and Sunday looked a little windy.
Durham County Wildlife Club will host a typical 300 target program ATA registered shoot this SUNDAY. Always a good time at DCWC and a great lunch. If you are planning on going you can preregister by going to www.tarheeltrap.com and look for shoot dates.
Ronnie Manuel is resting after surgery last week. Not sure how many days he will be in the hospital, but his son said he is doing well.
I made a call to Billy Thigpen last week to see how he was doing. He had made it to the SC State Shoot but was unable to shoot due to issues prior to the event. He hopes to be able to compete at the NC State Shoot.
Big shout out to PA shooter Nicole Hood on her first 200 straight at the Empire Grand. Nicole has shot in NC at the Dixie Grand and will be attending Jacksonville University in the fall. Don Neilson and Ray Greb presented her with her pins at after the event.
The 111th Annual North Carolina State Shoot will be held June 5-9, 2024. Always a good time at the NC Homegrounds and they anticipate a good crowd for this year’s competition. Go to www.nctrap.com for the program info and www.presquad.com to pre-squad.
Myrtle Beach resident Dave Daily asked about what clubs do for shelter in the warm summer months to provide shade for the shooters. I told him about several Florida clubs that use lawn umbrellas in buckets filled with cement. They place them accordingly to provide shade usually on the 16-yard line for singles and doubles. Former Florida State Trap Association president Jake Jacobs sent me a picture from a club in Jacksonville.
John Sandell wanted me to mention the passing of Todd McPherson. He was an ATA member and a member of the Charlotte Rifle & Pistol Club. He was a range officer and very active at the club. He evidently passed away suddenly so please remember his family and friends in prayer.
That should do it for this week. Have a great week everybody and make a point to get to DCWC for their trapshooting event. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, happy birthday Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Will, Thea and Anne and until next week…….smokem
