Greetings from Jamestown NC and where do I start? One shoot over the weekend and Durham County Wildlife Club shoots this Saturday. The weather was a tad windy, and Sunday was almost perfect for shooting except for cool AM temps.
This Saturday the Durham County Wildlife Club shoots a typical 300 target program. I talked to Scarlett on Saturday, and she has been great at posting her programs on this site. Hopefully we will be also posting her shoot results also. The weather looks warm and windy so it could be sporty. Take a look at “Shoot Dates” for the DCWC program for all the shoot information.
The Buckhorn Gun Club shot Sunday, and they had a good turnout with cool temps early and minimal wind which is rare at BGC. One 99 broken by Caleb Mathis with four 98’s close behind. Eric Blakeney’s 91 got him shooting from the 23 next time out and Mark Spoon outbested all doubles shooters with a 93. Eric wrapped up the HOA with a solid 277 Eurotargets broken. April 5-6 Buckhorn will host a two-day shooting event.
I reached out to Morgan Shaw asking about their March shoot date and if they would be ready. Here is a brief overview of the progress and the issues they face. They got the traphouse bases rebuilt thanks to Pop Waters and Marc Scott, computers and buttons are being fixed at Target Shotguns, and they still need to build roofs for the houses. With cold temps and frequent snow, it has been hard to complete some projects. One of the biggest hurdles is the cost of gravel to rebuild the road and make the area stable. They are looking for a reputable plumber to rebuild the bathrooms and they will have a Conex container delivered next week to replace the “bird” house. They estimate it will take 40K to gravel the property and that is quite a big bite out of the club budget. Morg said it that the March date is a longshot but if anything changes it will be reported here on this site and the Facebook site.
I talked to several folks over the weekend including Phil Davis out in Montana. He is doing great, and we talked about the good old days and about his dad Pete Davis. One year Phil came to the NC Homegrounds and had a ton of old pictures that I took photos of. I am trying to find them and as soon as I do I will post them.
As I was cleaning up the website a bit, I decided to dump some old clinic info and ran across Florida shooter Ron “Seitz” Burdick. Ron was very involved in the Spartanburg Gun Club until his move to Venice Florida. As many of you know Ron battled illness and he survived and that was 8 years ago. He is on the board at the Sarasota Gun Club, and he said they are sporting clay heavy with a fleet of 130+ golf carts for the SC. He shot at the Bill Jacobsen Memorial handicap Friday at the Silver Dollar with Richard Long from North Carolina.
I also had the pleasure talking to Jim Callan at length and Jim contributed greatly to this site when he was traveling with his son Addison. I decided to leave all the content that he published and hopefully he can restore some of the links to the pictures he captured. A lot of my links to pictures are also gone due to a glitch with my photobucket account. Both Jim and I will work on restoring some of those memories. Jim remarried last year, and I believe he added three more kids to the family that makes 6 children in the family. It was great to hear from him and I hope to reach out to 2-time NC State Singles Champ Addison and get him back on the line.
The Southern Grand cranked up Sunday and four 100’s and 13-99’s stood atop the leader board with 255 entries. They can only shoot two events a day because the handicap shootoffs have to end at a certain time due to noise restrictions. The handicap was won by Kentucky Sub-Jr Wyatt Keller after a 97 and a 24 in a shootoff. 241 entries in the preliminary handicap event and I would imagine this little fellow will be shooting a little farther back Monday. I will be posting info from the Southern Grand under Out-Of-State Trapshoot Info. Of course, you can see all the scores at www.shootscoreboard.com
Recently I was put in Facebook jail for an extended amount of time. Before I created the TarHeelTrap FB page I kept this page up to date for the most part but got a little/lot slack keeping the content up to date. Now with plenty of time I am cleaning up the site and will be publishing more content that I can control and not you know who. That means up to date shoot info and scores and pictures from those events. Also, Dan Johnson is whipping up some content for your viewing pleasure.
