April 14th Smoke Report

Great weather weekend overall and here we are right in the middle of April. State shoots are cranking up with Georgia followed South Carolina in North Carolina and then North Carolina in North Carolina. However you say it there is a whole lot of shooting right around the corner. I got a question why can’t we have the Hall of Fame during the North Carolina State shoot…..just asking.
One shoot in North Carolina this week with CCLEOA shooting a BIG50 this Friday. They had a good turnout last month and hopefully they will have an even bigger crowd this Friday. Weather looks like mid 70’s and wind 10-20 mph.
Rockingham County hosted a BIG50 Saturday, and the weather was a little coolish. Ed Gideon won the singles with a 48, Mason Mecham won the handicap with a 45 and Ed Gideon won the doubles with a 41 and the HOA.
Fort Bragg “not Liberty” shot Sunday and they had a great turnout 25/23/13. Doug Monjeau won the singles with a 96 and reverse run over Mark Spoon and Noah Simon, David Parker got a ½ yard punch for his 91 and Ed Gideon won the doubles with a 91. Not sure who won the HOA and Marty will send me a writeup to post Monday.
I reached out to Morgan Shaw about the Watauga shoot on the 26th. He commented that they picked up the PAT traps from Buckhorn and had placed them in the traphouses at the club. At this point the April shoot will be cancelled because there is more work to do to get the club ready for competition. Evidently the road has been fixed and that is a good sign things are getting back to normal. Donna will update the calendar to reflect the cancellation.
The North Carolina State Shoot program showed up last week, but I have not gotten a South Carolina program. I looked at the events and lo and behold the handicap on Wednesday is named after my grandfather Jim Brown. He was inducted into the NC HOF in the early nineties with Jack King and Doug House. I hope to make it up to the homegrounds and shoot in that event. I will drive back home and return Friday for the weekend.
South Carolina/NCHOF is just around the corner and Noah Gouge and Brian Keever will be inducted North Carolina Hall of Fame. The banquet will be on Saturday night and hopefully you have sent in your request for the event.
If you are reading the smoke report, be sure to take a look at Tall Tales and True Stories in the LODGE. Dan Johnson has added a story about Tom Elbertson and his return to trapshooting.
I hope everyone has a great Easter Holiday weekend and maybe get out to practice somewhere. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Will, Art, Mark C, Mark S, Thea and Anne and until then smokem……
