Another great weather weekend in North Carolina and no shoots to report from this week. One trap shoot this weekend and the Grand American is over for 2025.

One registered event this weekend will be held at the Durham County Wildlife Club. Typical 300 target program and I posted it on TarHeelTrap. She also posts a google doc so that you can pre-register for the event. That is not available at this time.

The Grand is over, and several NC shooters brought back a trophy from the event. Isaac McCoy was the first NC shooter to win along with Caleb Mathis, Marty Hill and Larry High. The weather was great and from what I heard there was no rain at the WSRC. Now wind was another issue, and the wind was rough during the Grand American Handicap sponsored by Elite. I have compiled a quick list of the NC winners and the major winners at the Grand. If you have never traveled to Sparta plan now for the Grand that will be held July 29th – August 8th 2026.

Event 11 - Krieghoff Handicap – JR Champ – Isaac McCoy 94
Event 19 - Challenger Ammunition Handicap – JR Gold 3rd – Caleb Mathis 98
Event 22 - ATA World Doubles Championship by Kolar – Class C 4th – Marty Hill 95
Event 22 - ATA World Doubles Championship by Kolar – Sr. Vet – Larry High 100

CTC Jason Krause 200
DBLS Matthew Bartholow 100
GAH Joe Binetruy 99
COC Brandon Deal 100
HOA 2600 – Dagen Voigtman - 2566
HOA – 1000 tgts Grand – Ian Darroch 985
HAA – Jack Knaus – 397
HAA – Prelim Week – Dagen Voigtman – 399

I talked with several of the folks at the Grand and got some interesting feedback. One competitor commented that he shot with a squad when a guy walked off the pad before he was finished shooting. Also, folks lifting or moving their guns while the person is shooting next to them. I mean how hard is it for you to keep your gun still while the guy or gal beside you is trying to shoot their target? Folks say trapshooters are a friendly bunch but it looks like there are some exceptions!

Word from Watauga is that Morgan has three traps working in preparation for the Glenn Miller shoot August 23-24. For those of you who are not wanting to travel that far West Ft. Bragg has a shoot on the 23rd. The week after that Buckhorn will host a three-day shoot on the 30th-31st and 1st of September. Looking into September RCGC will host their “Memorial” shoot with $100 going to high gun in singles, caps, dubs and HOA. Looking into October the Dixie Grand will be held the 7th through the 12th and the RCGC will be hosting ATA National Trapshooting Month with Shamrock leather trophies on the 25th.

That will do it for this week, and I hope everyone has a great start to the week. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
