Buncombe County picked a great weather day to hold a registered trapshoot. With other shoots including the “Fall Classic” and the Indian shoot at the Homegrounds the turnout was a little sparse. However, the folks that did show up had a great time and enjoyed creating that white smoke from the Bio White Flyer targets.
Once the squadding was done the singles squads stepped to the line with two knotting up for high gun honors. Fred Rutherford lost another flip to Pat Larsen for the top spot with solid 99’s in the singles event. Kevin Pryor took AA after a forfeit with Chappie Gennett with 98’s. Fred Rutherford took A, Freddy Redmon took B with a 97, JC Nunn took C with a 91 and Laurie Ombres took D with a 77 (her 1st registered shoot).
After a wonderful “FREE” hotdog lunch with all the trimmings including chips, drink and cookies the handicap commenced to starting. Two long yard squads stepped to the line with the short yarders bringing up the rear. When the smoke from the bio’s cleared Ray Gaultney led all shooters from the back fence with a 94. Fred Rutherford won long by forfeit with Chappie Gennett with 91’s. Pat Larsen took mid with a 93 and Freddy Redmon took short with a 92.
Doubles were shot on one field and they were some great doubles targets. Ray Gaultney led all entries with a 96, Kent Bone took A with an 87, Pat Larsen took B with a 90 and Ken Rhyne took C with a 75.
All that is left is the HOA and that was secured by Pat Larsen with scores of 99 – 93 and 90 for a 282x300 win. He shot great all day and great job Pat.
Well that is about it and I would like to say thanks to all the folks at Buncombe that helped run the shoot. I know that some folks were missing but that is not a problem. JC and I had a great time and we will be back sometime in 2011.
