The Georgia State shoot just wrapped up and here comes the South Carolina State and NC Hall of Fame at the North Carolina Homegrounds. In just a few days shooters will descend on the 17-trap layout near Bostic NC. 245 shooters competed in the Championship singles in 2024, and the question is will that be the case in 2025.

CCLEOA shot a week or so back and the singles winner was Stephen Cox, handicap Tony Barlanti and doubles and HOA Jeff Cash. We hope to see some of these folks at the SC and NC state shoots!

Buckhorn hosted a well-attended midweek BIG50 and some great scores were broken. Doug Monjeau and Eric Blakeney broke 50’s wit Eric winning the tie-breaker. Joe Nalley and Ed Gideon tied in caps with 45’s with Joe winning the tie breaker. Ed Gideon got a ½ yard punch to the 25 and now he can shoot with his long yardage crew. Eric won the doubles with a 47 and no tie this time. Eric also won the HOA with a 140x150. I think Eric qualifies for the NC Hot Shot thread what do you think?

The Charlie Brown Gun Club hosted a BIG50 Sunday and 21 shooters participated. Benji Hight won the singles, Cayson Clayton won the caps and the HOA and Bob Lindall won the doubles. Big thanks to all that participated and to all that pitched in to help.

The Georgia State shoot just wrapped, and it looks like Junior Gold shooter Ethan Ledford is the singles and doubles champ along with HOA and HAA. Some scores are available, and he might be the handicap champ also? The event was well attended, and they had good weather for the most part. On a sad note, one competitor passed while shooting in the singles championship Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family and the people on his squad.

By now the word is out about the South Carolina State Shoot. I do not know of one NC shooter that has received a mailed paper shoot program, but it is available on the WWW. The 2024 SCSS/NCHOF was well attended, and 245 singles shooters competed on that championship singles Saturday. With it being held in April it was the only shoot on the shootscoreboard website, and it came before the GA State Shoot. Regardless, the weather looks good with low 80’s during the week and mid 70’s for the weekend. 30% chance of rain on Friday and that is about it.

Along with the SCSS the NC Hall of Fame will be held with Brian Keever and Noah Gouge being inducted Saturday night. Limited trophies will be given for the championship weekend. As far as I know trophies will be given for the hi-gun for singles, doubles and HOA. We could only hope that 2026 will bring a “normal” shoot schedule for the SC and HOF dates.

Dan Johnson has posted another installment in the Lodge. Check out his next offering in Tall Tales & True Stories. He has promised me that he has a list of things to write about, and you just don’t know what he will come up with next. Hopefully one of his stories will tell the tale of the Carolina blue onesie….

Report out of the North is John Sandell got to shoot 5-stand at Minuteman. He said they had a 60’ tower with 4 mecs on it and they call it the “Rooster”. I wonder if John has a spray concoction to battle black flies like they have in Pennsylvania.

I called my Alabama shooting friend Jesse Burgher and he was on his way to the GA State shoot. He shoots with Ethan Miles and Ethan Ledford and Jesse shoots post 5. Jesse and I met at the South Carolina State shoot years ago when he was looking for a good parking place. For years I would drive to Spartanburg the week before to put up three 10x10 shelters up on the hill behind the starting traps. I got him a spot right beside our tents and we have been fast friends ever since. I believe he has a family reunion and will miss the SC shoot and hopefully he will make it to the NCSS.

Keep Andy Ledford and Tommy Brown on your prayer list. Both are undergoing procedures and looking forward to good reports.

Ok that is about it and hopefully I will be able to do the smoke report next weekend. It might be delayed to Monday we will just have to see. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Will, Mark C, Mark S, AirBnB Dan, Thea and Anne and until next week……..smokem
