Great weather weekend in North Carolina and it looks like a few more dry days ahead. Not much going on this weekend as far as shoots go but the next week is full of registered events.
You know I hate to think about the day I was sitting in my home one morning after knee surgery. I had opted to postpone the surgery until after I attended the Grand American in Vandalia Ohio. As I hobbled into the room, I noticed one of the twin towers smoking and within minutes I witnessed the second plane going in. Certainly, a terrible day and hard to believe it has been so long ago.
The Rockingham County Gun Club hosted their annual “Memorial Shoot” Saturday and Greg Robinson led all singles shooters with a 99. Isaac McCoy got a ½ yard punch for his 92 and Dan Johnson won the doubles with a 91 and the HOA with a 272. The ATA National Trapshooting Month shoot will be the 18th of October and Shamrock leather trophies will be awarded.
Upcoming shoots will be September 27th with Old Hickory, Durham and Watauga shooting that Saturday. Buckhorn will be shooting on Sunday the 28th. Hopefully we will have some shoot programs to post for these events.
The Dixie Grand is right around the corner, and it looks like over 200 shooters have signed up for the championship singles on Saturday. Marty is also classifying shooters prior to the event to speed up the process for cashiering if you are pre-squadded. Praying for good weather and no hurricanes this go around.
Looks like Ronnie Manuel is back out amongst us. He has a mobility cart that has four stable wheels, and he shot singles and handicap Saturday at RCGC. He got out and practiced earlier in the week and is aware that he must build up his arm strength to control that gun. He shot well considering and looking forward to seeing him on the line.
Some of you may know my granddaughter Taylor Martin and she shot some ATA registered before she went to and graduated from Meredith College. Well, she got married Saturday and on her way to Wyoming for her honeymoon. Her husband Tanner is no stranger to shooting and hunting and competed in 4H competitions before he aged out and attended NC State. The goal is to get them out shooting trap and Tanner has a younger brother that is a good trapshooter. Some of her 4H teammates attended the wedding and several that shot for Carolina Clays.
Dan Johnson has penned another installment in Tall Tales & True Stories. Go take a look in the “The Lodge” and I hope you enjoy all of his content!
Ok that will do it and I hope everyone has a great week. Except for Tuesday it looks like a dry week locally. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
