January 5th, 2026 Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Happy New Year and here we are in 2026. Time just keeps marching on doesn’t it! It was colder for Thanksgiving than it was for Christmas and looks like a warming trend this week.

Spartanburg and Brushy Mountain cancelled their Saturday shoots with a threat of rain in SC and snow in VA. Buckhorn was scheduled to shoot Saturday and have yet to find anyone that attended for a shoot report.

I got to talk to Tammie in South Carolina, and we discussed the issues they were having with their Eurotargets. NC clubs are not having any issues with breakage, but Spartanburg has. Not sure if they will return to White Flyers when the Euros run out.

Phil Berkowitz from Florida called Sunday and we discussed the Euros and a target called BRIGHTWING. I understand the Euro is a resin target and the BRIGHTWING is a typical pitch target. Not sure of anyone using the BRIGHTWING but it looks like Target Shotguns is a distributor for both brands. One comment I have heard is that shooters really like the vibrant color of the Euro and the BWING. I guess the thought of clubs buying targets cheaper is a good idea, but when will they pass along those savings to the people shooting? I believe I answered my own question, and the answer is that isn’t happening.

Put George Sudderth on your prayer list this week. Wednesday he will be undergoing a procedure and should be in good shape for the SC/HOF in May. Also, if you Google George there is a YouTube video of him being interviewed by the historical society. He discusses growing up in Blowing Rock and it is interesting.

Still having some up and down issues with TarHeelTrap so I am also posting the Smoke Report on TrapnNC just to be sure it is available. Not sure when I will have time to start working on the site only time will tell.

I hope everyone has a great week and hopefully things will settle down a bit after all the days off and celebrations. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
