Blistering 103 degree heat greated the shooters attending the Lewis Class Shoot at the Rock. The weather was hot and there was a slight breeze blowing most of the day. The clouds moved in during the singles and the New York style White Flyers were tough to see at times. The sun came out during the caps but that didn't keep folks from sendingbirds unbroken to the terra firma.
There were 20 shooters for the singles and we had some first time new shooters in the event. Father and son duos Randy and Luke Jones and Martin and Andrew Pace. There were two 48's broken by Jeff Galloway and Winky Mabe, one 47 by Tommy Brown and a 46 by Ronnie Manuel. Also in our Blue Bird option Winky Mabe, Zax Tate, Andrew Pace and Luke Jones all broke their Blue Birds. That Blue Bird paid each shooter 8 bucks for their marksmanship.
There were 5 squads for the caps and I have never called lost so much in my life. Not sure what was going on but one fellow gave me a rest. I got to ref for JC on his last squad of handicap and he smoked all 25 and also had the top score for the handicap with a 46. He did not win the event but I hope he breaks them like that in Bradford. Wnky had a 44 and there were three 43's broken by Charlie Rinehart, Wayne Banks and Lewis Wyatt.
When the smoke cleared Winky Mabe was the top Lewis Class winner with a 92. The second Lewis was won by Lewis Wyatt and Ronnie Manuel and Scott Shoulars took the bottom Lewis. All in all everybody had a great time and thanks to all that pitched in scoring, loading and picking up hulls - all help was very much appreciated!
The main reason for the get together was to have a little birthday party for JC Nunn. JC will turn 89 next Firday. Thanks to Sandy Wyatt, Judy, LeAnne, the Shoulars and everybody else that helped pull it together for JC. I asked him if he had any idea that we were going to have him a party and he said - no way. He did say thay he got to thinking after I called him Friday and said that he really needed to be there. He also got to shoot some Blue Birds after the party was over and I have that on video..
So that is about it and thanks to Lane Murray for all of his efforts and I know he appreciates all the shooters coming out to spread lead at the Rock. Make plans now to attend the next Lewis Class shoot on the 18th of August - Winky Mabe's birthday!
