Watauga May 23rd Report
WOW!!!!!
That’s about all I can say for the first shoot of the year 2015. What a turn out and the weather was great, a little on the windy side, but when is it not windy on top of the mountain. The sun was out and the skies were clear. And we had a wave of shooters roll in from Tennessee and a great group of shooters from Buckhorn. Speaking of “WAVES” we tried the wave and it turned into a real flop, but we learned and we will get better. But everyone was patient and let us get the bugs worked out. O yea, we had a grand total of “45” shooter roll up on the mountain for some shooting fun. Jeff Allen brought a great bunch of kids from Carolina clay to get a little practice in. Looks like it’s time to bring the “Ole Widow Maker” field four out of retirement.
Shooting;
Let’s see in Singles we had Jim Wilson taking top honors with a score of 98. Then in Handicap one of our own local shooter stumbled on to a good score some way in all that wind. Mr Tom Shelley showing off posted a high 92 for a half yard punch and a kiss from some lovely lady on crutches. The two double events went back to the Jim and Dan court and they divided up all the money. Dan Johnson took top honors in the first round of doubles with a 96, then in the second not to be out done Jim Wilson stepped up and tied Dan with a 94. Now the HOA was better than that Dan Johnson was going into that last event of doubles with a one bird lead over Big Jim. Jim in a blaze of glory was only able to post a tie in the last event giving Dan Johnson HOA with a 368X400 to a 367X400 post by Jim. But there were more shooters out on the range today, so on to the other scores.
