October 28th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Hello and I hope you are looking forward to tricking or treating this Thursday night. Back in the day the Watauga Gun Club hosted their October shoot and dressed up in their Halloween costumes. One shooting event over the weekend at the Old Hickory Gun Club.

Normally the Watauga Gun Club would host their Chicken Wing Fling shoot (October 26th). With the club being damaged by the hurricane, it just was not possible to hold the event. John Waters and Jimmy Wilson worked out the details to hold a combined Chicken Wing Fling and Toys for Tots shoot at Buckhorn November 10th. It looks like a 200-target program to be determined and a delicious meal of those famous Pop Waters Wings in various flavors. Please bring a monetary donation that will be given to Jason Dancy to be distributed to areas that were damaged by hurricane Helene. Should be a well-attended event and hope to see everybody there.

Old Hickory shot Sunday and here is the writeup that was penned by NCTA president Marty Hill. 12 shooters showed up to break some clay targets at Rocky Mount this morning. Waited for rain to stop before we started. Singles found Eric Blakeney, David Nelson and Brandon Matthew’s all knotted with 98’s. Brandon and David were still tied after using reverse score. Brandon won flip to take honors. Handicap found Glenn Alford on top with 88. Joe Nalley was on top in doubles with a 90. HOA found David Nelson and Eric Blakeney tied with 264. Thanks to John, Rusty, Jim, Doug, Jeri and Karole for help putting on the shoot. Thanks to Old Hickory Gun Club members for loading traps and cleaning fields. Thanks to all who attended. We hope to host more shoots in 2025. Haven’t finalized dates yet.

If you want to get out and register some targets this weekend, the Brushy Mountain Gun Club in Hurt Virginia will host a typical 300 target program this Saturday. Two traps and a good lunch and the weather looks ok at this time. Also, the Spartanburg Gun Club will host a typical 300 target program on Saturday also. No lunch will be provided so pack a picnic lunch.

Tom Brown celebrated his birthday and wound up in the hospital with a kidney stone. He tried to hang on, but the pain was so bad he drove himself to the hospital. It was over an hour before they administered anything for pain, and it took three shots before it eased off. Also please remember the McCoy family in your prayers. Isaac McCoy lost his grandfather Jerry Luck after an extended illness.

That will do it for this week, and I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather. It won’t be long until winter has set in and maybe we will get some snow. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Will, Art, Barron, Thea and Anne and until next week…….smokem
