December is just about over, and everyone is hopefully looking forward to the new year. I hear about new year’s resolutions and wonder how many folks stick to them. I also hear that we might get to see some of the white stuff in the not too near future.
Looking on the bright side the Buckhorn Gun Club will start out the new year with a 300-target program shoot on SATURDAY the 4th. Needless to say, it might be a little chilly with temps in the low 40’s and wind 10-15 WNW. It does show that it will be a bright and sunny day.
I traveled to see my mother in Morehead City on Thursday and usually call folks to check on them considering I had a four hour drive. I rang Gorgeous George Brown to see how he was doing and he advised that he had some muscle issues in his right arm. The VA seems to think he will get better with therapy but George is a little wary of the diagnosis. He shot at Bragg at their last shoot and said it was hurting him early on. Hopefully he can get that wing fixed and back to shooting.
George mentioned that Greg High was supposed to have back surgery in late December, but it was postponed to late January. I called Marty Hill to get Greg’s number but have not called him yet. Best of luck to Greg and hopefully he can rehab in time to do some shooting in 2025.
Tom Brown got some good news from the VA regarding some issues he has been dealing with. I know that he is relieved and looking forward to a good report going forward.
The fellow that manages Palmetto Trap on Facebook posted that former Spartanburg Gun Club president Harry Gable passed last week. Harry was a great fellow and worked tirelessly at the club and hosting the SC State Trapshoot that was held in May. He worked in the school system and not exactly sure what his role was. He was not shooting any trap and had a really nice Kolar. He spent more time with pistols and AR style weapons there at the club. He will be sorely missed and prayers for his family at this time.
I contacted Horace Best on my way back home Saturday and he had just left the Coharie Gun Club. He had not shot much since the Dixie Grand that he wound up not attending. He has been dialing in a new Caesar Guerini combo and getting it ready for the 2025 season. Horace bought his first Mec reloader from my grandfather Jim Brown in 1968.
I talked to several others including Tommy Brown, Mark Spoon, Chase Reese and Lane Murray. It really makes the time go by faster when traveling but you still have to pay attention to the GPS and the crazy folks on the highway.
Ok, I would like to wish everyone and Happy New Year and hope to see some of you in 2025 at clubs in and out of state. Not sure how much I will be shooting but that remains to be seen. HNY to Scott in PA, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Will, Art, Mark, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
