February 24th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Good morning and I hope you enjoyed the snow, the cold, the wind and now warm temps for the next few days. One shoot over the weekend at Buckhorn and it was well attended.

Several shoots not in North Carolina this weekend including Brushy Mountain Virginia and Spartanburg SC. Both locations look like mid 60’s but the wind will make shooting sporty at best. Spartanburg had a great turnout last month with Brady Cox cleaning house.

Buckhorn shot Sunday and the weather was cold for some and a bit of wind. 28 shooters in the singles and Dan Johnson and Eric Blakeney tied up with 97’s. Mark Spoon was a close second with a 95. 17 shooters stepped to the line for the handicap and three 88’s got a ½ yard punch. Cayson Clayton, Eric Blakeney and Shawn Reese all battled the elements and not sure exactly who the eventual winners were. I have no scores from the doubles or the HOA. If I get that info, I will update the smoke report sometime this week. Buckhorn will shoot Sunday March 9th so mark your calendar and maybe it will be a little warmer.

The Silver Dollar $un$hine Handicap event took place and Tiffany Decker won in the first three events Friday, won Lady 1 in Singles Saturday with a 196 and the Lady 1 HOA and HAA. Dave Bicknell won the singles Saturday with the lone 199 and Carl Chadwell broke not 1 but two 98’s in the two handicap events Sunday. He also won HOA and HAA… Folks are getting geared up for the Southern Grand in just a few weeks along with the Florida State Shoot.

The Spring Grand American is taking place in Tucson Arizona and the preliminary week is over. Georgia Junior shooter Rory Lee broke the lone 200 Saturday to win with 247 entries in the event. ATA Secretary Hunter Galloway and his wife flew out Saturday for Hunter to attend the ATA executive board meeting. They will be arriving back in Greensboro Tuesday.

I hope everyone has a great week and hopefully enjoy the warmer weather. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Will, Art, Mark, Thea and Anne and until next week…..smokem
