March 3rd Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Great weather weekend for the most part except for the wind. Spartanburg and Brushy Mountain shot Saturday and from what I hear it was a bit sporty. One registered event this Sunday and the Buckhorn Gun Club.

I talked with VA shooter Art Bodell Saturday, and he attended the shoot at Brushy Mountain. They offered 200 singles and 50 pair of doubles program and it was well attended. The local colleges showed up with their youth shooters and 22 folks shot part or all of the program. Art commented that the targets were doing some crazy things with the unpredictable wind. Their next shoot is April 5th so please make a note of it.

Spartanburg shot Saturday and I had hoped to get a report from SCTA VP George Powell. He commented that he was shooting poorly in a text. The Spartanburg folks are good to post their results on the ATA website and David Smiley won the singles, Teresa Knight won the handicap and David Smiley won the doubles and the HOA.

The Buckhorn Gun Club shoots this Sunday. The current weather forecast is calling for 56 high with wind 10-15 and 50% chance of rain. But heck weather is unpredictable at best. Hopefully that will change by the weekend.

The Spring Grand just ended in Tucson, and I hear attendance was down 20%. It might have picked up for the championship weekend like most events do. The Southern Grand cranks up on the 9th and runs through the 16th. Due to local restrictions, they can only shoot two events a day and must wrap up shooting by a certain time of the day. Not sure who all are heading down there but I would imagine Marty Hill and Greg High will be there.

The South Carolina State Shoot/NC Hall of Fame shoot (April 30 – May 4) is up on www.presquad.com and according to Marty Hill 60 folks have already signed up. Signing up early and having Marty pre-classify you can really speed things up in the clubhouse.

That will do it for this week, and I hope everyone enjoys the nicer weather. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Will, Mark, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
