The Rockingham County Gun Club held a trapshooting event on Saturday June 21st. When the forecast is hot it can make you think twice about dragging out the gear and attending the shoot.

Thank goodness folks came out to play and some good scores were broken under clear and partly cloudy conditions. Shooting began about 9:30 and three fields were used shooting 100 per field.

Last week we installed some exterior antennas for the ERAD system. Field 4 for some unknown reason didn’t want to cooperate so field 5 was opened and some of the best single’s scores were broken on that field.

Singles cranked up and when the dust settled there were three 98’s including Greg Robinson and VA shooters Brian and Matthew Coates. However, the spoiler showed up and did you guess who that was? None other than Dan Johnson with the “LONE” 99.

Handicap fielded enough for a punch and Hunter Miller posted the lone 94 that added a ½ yard to his ATA card. The next highest score was a 92 by Brian Coates and three 25’s were broken by Hunter, Dan Johnson and Matthew Coates. $20 was added to the middle 50 pot for the next handicap event for a $1710 total.

Doubles are always fun and a bit of wind slipped into the club and targets started moving around. There were three scores in the 90’s including the young guns Jacob Gossett and Matthew Coates. Representing the elder generation none other than old trusty Doubles Dan Johnson out birded the youngins with an event high 92 broken 44-48…. Even if you aren’t good at math I guess by now you have figured out that there is a good chance Dan won the HOA and you would be correct!

Big thanks to all that attended and to all that pitched in and helped. The grounds looked great and for the most part everything went smoothly. RCGC will host a BIG50 Sunday June 22nd with registration at 1 and shooting at 2. The next BIG50 will be held on July 19th. RCGC will host the Memorial shoot (300 targets) on September the 13th so please mark your calendar.
