December 22nd Smoke Report

Good morning from Jamestown, North Carolina. Monday of Christmas week is always a little stressful trying to get everything in place for the holiday. With the weather looking warm I can see folks heading to the club the day after Christmas.

Not a ton of info to report this week with limited shoots taking place during this time of the year. One shoot over the weekend with Brushy Mountain hosting a BIG50 Saturday. Good luck getting any information and maybe 2026 will be a little better for shoot reports.

The 2026 NCTA shoot calendar is available on www.nctrap.com. Buckhorn will shoot Sunday January 3rd so please make a note of it. The BIG50 calendar has not been updated due to no info submitted to be updated. Clubs yet to provide 2026 dates – Old Hickory@Rocky Mount – Ft. Bragg – Charlie Brown – Durham County Wildlife Club – CCLEOA – Watauga – Rockingham County Gun Club. Updates should be trickling in very soon.

As I mentioned last week TRAPnNC was setup as a backup for this page. At least I can get the smoke report up on a weekly basis in case issues arise. I appreciate the folks that reached out to me about the page not being available. As time allows, I hope to work on the topic format among other things. If you will please take a moment to register and thanks.

During the Holiday season I have a habit of calling people on the phone. I normally average about 40 Christmas cards each year and the personal call has a magic touch most of the time. I have met so many people over the years and have amassed a ton of phone numbers. When I retired from the Sheriff’s Office I had 4,000 contacts in my address book. Just a suggestion maybe call a few folks you haven’t chatted with and it might make their day….

Looking into 2026, the three BIG shoots in NC are at the NC Homegrounds. SCSTATE/NCHOF – NC State – DIXIE and the dates have been published on www.nctrap.com With the rising costs of clay targets and shells it will be interesting to see how much the price per 100 targets will increase in 2026.

Update on the vitrectomy procedure and my last appointment was Tuesday. All looks good and I have great clear vision in both eyes. The only issue going forward is dry macular degeneration that was detected and we will see how that looks in a year.

Also in 2026 the Rockingham County Gun Club will be tearing down the old trap building, moving it back 30 feet from behind traps 1&2. Similar floorplan but with an office and garage/storage area. I’m not exactly sure when it will start and be completed. Also, the screened in porch on the main clubhouse will be removed to create an open pavilion type area.

That should about do it for this week. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and making New Years resolutions…. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
