Elmo Matkins Classic Shoot Report & Picture Slideshow

The weather was picture perfect for the Elmo Matkins Classic at the Rockingham Gun Club. The HOA was based on the total of the three handicap events and there was only one winner that would get their name carved on the Elmo Matkins perpetual trophy.

We would like to say thanks to everybody that attended, helped and thanks to the 4-H club for some nutritious lunches. Also the brownies that Natalia Johns made were absolutely maybe the best I have ever eaten.

Saturday the temps were high and the clouds would pop in and out all day. Sunday the clouds were less annoying but light breezes took their place. All three traps were set with a radar gun and were set to the best of our ability. They were checked again on Sunday by Greg High before the last handicap event.

Saturday singles were won by junior phenom Chris Shoulars with Lane Murray nipping at his heels. The Remington handicap was won by Scott Hanes with a strong 95 and four 94’s close behind including one shot by JC Nunn. Doubles offered a shootoff to determine a winner after 60 extra targets and Scott Hanes emerged the victor.

Sunday’s first event the Preliminary Handicap was won by smooth talking Fred Daniels. The singles found two locals knotted at the top with Chris Shoulars and Lane Murray stepping to the line for a shootoff at the end of the day. Keep reading to find out who emerged the winner. The final handicap was won by a local Winky Mabe and he was the lone 96 at the top of the heap.

We will list all the winners below and then do a wrapup of all the HOA winners and the Elmo winner.

Allright and that is a lot of typing for sure. I believe that Scott Hanes took the HOA for the day and also won the Elmo Matkins trophy with 95-91-93. He has been shooting great and we appreciate Remington’s support and also the donation of shells that were used for event trophies.

We will try to get some pictures posted and also some video that was taken at the event!
